Kristy has loved animals since childhood...she was often known to sneak stray kittens, bunnies or anything else needing a home into her bedroom. Kristy was introduced to 4-H when she was seven years old, showing a pony and a goat at the 4-H fair. Her love for animals, and especially horses, grew stronger over the years.
After leasing horses and riding school horses, her parents decided she wouldn't outgrow this phase and purchased her first horse when she was 14 years old. Kristy spent many years riding and showing horses in 4-H, Michigan Hunter Jumper Association and Michigan Interscholastic Horse Association.
During her senior year of high school, she was hired by the Kensington Metropark Farm Center. While working at the Center, she drove the horse-drawn hayrides, guided farm tours for school groups, and cared for the animals. It was then that she discovered her love of farm animals.
After years of boarding, training and showing horses, Kristy and her husband, Tom, decided to breed the type of horses they enjoyed the most...Sport Horses. With the arrival of their son, Evan, breeding horses became more difficult, and the Green Acres vision became a reality.
Mr. Tom is an animal loving kid at heart. He has loved animals his entire life and asked for a pony every birthday and Christmas since he was five years old.
It wasn't until he took a Dressage Riding Class while attending Michigan State University that he was hooked. Tom purchased his first horse at the age of 27 years old and the rest is history.
Many of you know Mr. Tom as Evan's Dad and Ms. Kristy's husband. But, did you know that in addition to his full time duties here at the farm, Mr. Tom is also a full-time police officer (30 years) and firearms instructor? He loves teaching people how to safely enjoy firearms and archery.
Mr. Tom can often be found playing tag and other games with the camp kids.
